Adirondack Repose

An oil painting titled Adirondack Repose by Chuck Morkin.

“Adirondack Repose” by Chuck Morkin

I’m working on a painting of an Adirondack chair.  I lean back in total ease, rest my arms, and stretch out my legs. This is where I want to ponder the mysteries. Yes, please!

Mountains rise toward clouds and blue sky. A lake begins at the foot of the mountains and stops about 50 yards away from me. Water continues as a gentle woodland stream and makes its way between the lake and the chair. I can almost hear it sneaking past me.

Before I paint more, I need to decide whether the stream is heading toward the lake or from the lake. It’ll make a difference in how I paint it. Could the direction of flow change the meaning of the painting? I’m trying to picture it.

I want this painting to offer a soul space. The chair might confer the gift of rest and deep connection between me and the “Ground of Being.” Enter the space and let me know.
